It is the mission of the Louisville Metro Police Dive Team to provide quality water rescue and recovery services that will protect human life, recover the remains of deceased people in a compassionate manner, facilitate the recovery of evidence for presentation in criminal prosecution, and augment the Louisville Metro Police River Patrol activities as needed.
The LMPD Dive Team is the largest and most highly trained police dive team in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Dive Team members are required to certify as public safety divers, underwater investigators (up to and including master scuba diver training in the sub-surface environment), and rope rescue and swift water rescue technicians on the surface. The Dive Team can deploy anywhere. The team is self-sustaining with an on board compressor and fill stations on their two trucks. The team coordinates with the River Patrol Unit to provide boats for operations in and out of Jefferson County.
The LMPD Dive Team will conduct search and rescue and flood operations when requested by the MetroSafe or other elements within the department, as well as other local, state, and federal governmental agencies.
